Can you do it all? - Spoiler: No you can’t

We hear alot about extremely efficient people. High productivity, thriving at everything they do and pretty much never sleeping! These robot-humans seem to have it all together all the time - careers, family and even social life. while the rest of us drown in the sea of expectation. 🙋🏾‍♂️ (Put your hand up if you can relate)🙋🏾‍♂️

We live in a world that is constantly demanding us to take on more responsibility, wake up earlier and work later. We have this constant pressure to be everything to everyone. It seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day for us do all we need to do and even if there were, we don’t have the energy to do it all. However, is it healthy to attempt to live up to the idea of functioning like a machine? (Once again, our mental health is at risk here)

We are not machines and we should not aspire to be. As human beings, we are not designed to take on more than we can bear. Remember, you aren’t meant to take on more than what's healthy for you to carry.

Spoiler!! - You are flesh and blood - not nuts and bolts. Without proper care, machines just like us can face dire repercussions such as unnecessary downtime, expensive part replacements etc.

1. Master the manual

An instruction manual the most important document provided to a customer because it ensures proper use of the machinery. It is always advisable to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to understand the operations of a piece of equipment.

Similarly, you are the manufacturer and sole operator of your life. It is critical that you have a clear manual for how you intend on living it. Nothing gives a person a sense of purpose like a distinct understanding of where they are going. We all need personal philosophy in life or risk wandering and responding to random stimuli and information with little or no impact on our long-term goals. You are the author of your own life, write and follow your own narrative.

2. Add the right lubricants frequently

Lubrication is one of the first and most important of maintenance checks in which things like signs of excess oil or grease build-up on pistons and leaks are looked out for. Lubricants are vital for the longevity and proper functioning of machinery, which is why using the right lubricant is critical 😉.

For us, food acts as a lubricant for the proper functioning of our bodies and provides us with the nutrients we need to be alert and active. However, many of the foods we consume today don’t possess nutritional value and lead to health problems such as hypertension and heart disease. Therefore, you should choose healthy and balanced food that can provide enough nutritional value for the body.

3. Check for signs of wear and tear

Vibration, shock, high temperatures, friction, and age all contribute to the breakdown of parts in heavy machinery. Routine checks of the health of the various parts of machinery ensure that the equipment stays functioning for longer and saves the owner money in the long run.

People, like machines, have many moving parts, that should they fail, could result in irreparable damage to the whole. Regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start. They can also find problems early when your chances for treatment and cure are better. By getting the right health services, screenings, and treatments, you are taking steps that help your chances of living a longer, healthier life.

4. Keep large machinery clean, and maintain a clean environment

There are many seals and filters in place in heavy machinery to keep working parts clean and free of contamination. Seals and filters inspected regularly to make sure they’re in good condition. The electronics in the cab are susceptible to breakdown if contaminated. This impacts the clutch, for example.

Is it healthy to be everything to everyone?

Like machines, human beings come equipped with internal seals, that keep influences that are harmful to us from entering our lives; and filters that let in only the beneficial things into things we let into our lives. Be it people, circumstances, words or even our own thoughts, we possess the ability to seal out or filter these into our lives. Learn to seal things you don’t want in your life with a strong NO.

5. Preventative Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is a strategy of proactive maintenance that keeps machines in optimal condition and reduces unscheduled repairs. Essentially, it combats anything that would put the workforce on hold or call the company's reputation into question.

People need preventative maintenance too. We need to take time off to rest and take stock of our lives to prevent breakdowns at a later stage. What better than a holiday to maintain our sanity. There is nothing quite like a good holiday to escape your daily routine and see new places., but these trips are also important in terms of health and wellbeing.
